Increased Rate Risk of Kidney Disease - Now over 3 Million


An alarm has been raised by the Commissioner for Health, Lagos State concerning the risk of kidney disease in the globe. Statistics have shown that over and about 3 Million are at the risk of contact this disease. He stated that the factors responsible for this misdemeanor is the indulgence in food are considered inappropriate, couple with an unhealthy lifestyle.

This information was disclosed in Sword of Victory Kidney Foundation Inauguration which took place in Lagos, at Navy Town arena. Although the commissioner himself, Dr. Olajide Idris was unavoidable absent, he was represented by Dr. Ismaila Abdulsalam

His representative said: “There are 3 million people at risk of contracting kidney disease worldwide. The essence of inaugurating this kidney foundation today is to raise awareness on the importance of the kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and the impact of kidney diseases and associated problems,”

He further said that,
“About 90 percent of this number is waiting for kidney transplant, yet only 2500 patients are carried out each year.  3000 people die every year while living in dialysis while 300 people die while waiting for transplant. Kidney disease kills and currently the only treatment to the disease is through dialysis and transplant or conservative care.”

This situation can be treated, especially if discover at the early stage. People should ensure that they imbibe the habit of having check-ups regularly.
