Last season’s Champions League final will be remembered by Real Madrid fans for a very long time to come.

Zinedine Zidane’s side triumphed over their arch-rivals Atletico Madrid at the San Siro on penalties after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw after extra-time.

It was certainly an indifferent match for one man in particular - Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar was fairly anonymous during the 120 minutes and missed a few glorious opportunities to win the trophy for his side. However, he was always going to have his say, wasn’t he?

Ronaldo, of course, stepped up to score the winning penalty as Madrid won their 11th European Cup.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner was dubbed the hero for what he did on the pitch but footage has emerged of what he did off the pitch - and it may have inspired his team to victory.

With Los Blancos leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to Sergio Ramos’ 15th-minute opener, Ronaldo decided he would attempt to give a motivational speech to his teammates during the interval.

Here is the transcript of his rousing team-talk:

“Listen, I want to say something: we're 45 minutes from making history. Tiredness is psychological sometimes. We need to play another 45 flat out. We can because we're fine. It's mental. We're 45 from making history. We defend as we've defended in the first half.

“Let's go! Let's go! Stick together. [Applause] Relax, stick together, we'll catch them out, of course we'll catch them out, you'll see.”

Ronaldo’s speech didn’t exactly have the required effect as Atletico equalised in the second-half when Yannick Carrasco levelled the scores with 11 minutes remaining.

However, Real Madrid forced the game into extra-time where Ronaldo did his talking on the pitch by calmly scoring the winning penalty.

After his antics in the European Championships this summer after getting injured in the final against France, it looks almost certain that Ronaldo fancies himself as a manager when he finally retires.
