Real Madrid team-mates Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have been confirmed on the 30-man shortlist for the 2016 Ballon d'Or.




France Football have announced the first 10 players in contention for the prize, awarded last year to Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.
Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Manchester City duo Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, and Juventus trio Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and Gianluigi Buffon also join Bale and Ronaldo.
Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin and Antoine Griezmann complete the shortlist as it stands, with the remaining 20 names revealed later on Monday.
Bale and Ronaldo starred for Wales and Portugal respectively at Euro 2016, and helped Real Madrid win their second Champions League in three years in May.
Portugal captain Ronaldo, who last won the Ballon d'Or in 2014, is currently favourite to take home the trophy for the fourth time after helping his country beat Griezmann's France to win Euro 2016.

This year's edition of the prestigious individual prize will be judged solely by a panel of journalists after FIFA and France Football ended their partnership.
Between 2010 and 2015, FIFA's World Player of the Year award had been combined with the Ballon d'Or to create the FIFA Ballon d'Or, which was decided by a combination of votes from national team managers, captains and journalists.

The Nigeria Immigration Service in Plateau State said it has arrested non-Nigerians in possession of the Permanent Voter Cards. The NIS Comptroller in the state, Raymond Jaja, named the suspects as Nnekema Abu from Bukina-Faso, who was picked by immigration officials in Langtang South and Rubaila Ibrahim a Cameroonian, who claimed to be married to a Nigerian but displaced during the attacks in Borno. Mr. Jaja disclosed this Wednesday in Jos. The Comptroller stressed “The service has received information that foreigners were conniving with unscrupulous persons in producing security documents that would qualify them in participating in the elections. “They should know that foreigners are not eligible to participate in any electoral process in Nigeria. Militants bomb Agip pipelines in Bayelsa

Palpable fear gripped the residents of coastal communities of Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, following an explosion that rocked oil pipelines belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company. The explosion, which was said to have been triggered by dynamite attacks allegedly launched by suspected militants, affected pipelines located in Orukari, Golubokiri and Kpongbokiri communities of Brass.

Fashola is a conspirator in the threat to life of Igbos - Lagos PDP says, demands Oba's suspension

PDP in Lagos state says that the 48-hour silence of Governor Fashola since the Oba of Lagos made death threats to Igbos indicates that not only is Fashola in agreement with what the Oba said, but that the Oba spoke on behalf of the state government. In a statement released today, the party demanded for the suspension of the Oba until after the elections. The statement reads in part; "The governor is thus a conspirator in this threat to life and must also be held accountable for any violence in this elections. We have at this point been vindicated about the desperation of the APC to retain Lagos state at all cost including the All Progressives Congress’ plan not to concede the imminent defeat on April 11. The positions of the PDP are coming on the heels of the now viral threat issued by the Oba of Lagos to Igbos that they must vote for the APC Governorship Candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, or be drowned in Lagos water."
